Description

Course Overview

If a child showed signs that something was wrong, would you know what to notice, what to do, and who to tell?

Safeguarding is not just the responsibility of the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Every member of school and college staff has a role in creating a safe environment, recognising concerns, and responding appropriately when a child may need help or protection.

Safeguarding & Child Protection (KCSIE Aligned) gives you a practical introduction to safeguarding responsibilities in education. You’ll explore the difference between safeguarding and child protection, recognise common indicators of abuse and neglect, understand key KCSIE responsibilities, and learn how concerns should be reported and referred.

Would you recognise a safeguarding concern?

A change in behaviour, unexplained injury, unusual attendance pattern, worrying disclosure, or something a child says may cause concern. Knowing what to look for is important — but knowing what to do next matters just as much.

What will you actually learn?

Across 4 focused modules, you’ll build practical awareness of safeguarding and child protection, explore different forms and indicators of abuse and neglect, understand key staff responsibilities under KCSIE, and develop greater confidence in reporting, responding, and referral procedures.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, school and college staff, pastoral teams, support staff, administrators, volunteers, and other education professionals who have responsibilities for the safety and wellbeing of children.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Why This Course?

What would you do if a pupil told you something that made you concerned about their safety?

You may not be the person responsible for investigating the concern — but you could be the person who notices it first.

Could you recognise the signs?

Safeguarding concerns do not always appear as obvious signs of harm. Changes in behaviour, attendance, presentation, communication, or emotional wellbeing can sometimes indicate that a child needs help.

This course helps you understand what to look for without jumping to conclusions.

Do you know what happens after a concern is raised?

Knowing who to report to, what information to record, and when to escalate a concern can make your response clearer and more appropriate.

Why does every member of staff matter?

Effective safeguarding depends on people understanding their responsibilities and acting when concerns arise. The course helps you develop a child-centred, alert, and confident approach to safeguarding in everyday education settings.
